Autumn-Winter exhibitions 2009 - Photo by Inside Science New Service

If you decide to come in Italy during Autumn-Winter 2009 you’ll find some interesting exhibitions in the Italian cities. We made for our readers a list of the best expositions from the North to the South of the peninsula. We hope you find it helpful.

1) Naples, Collezione Farnese – from 2nd October to 2nd December:

At the archaeological Museum of Naples will be exposed the Farnese collection. The exhibition is the result of a project of the museum that wants to enhance its artistic heritage and exnd the museum. The Farnese bull, the tyrannicides and Atlantis Farnese are just three of the 300 statues that will be exposed.

2) Rome, Caravaggio VS Bacon – from 1st October to 24th January:

The Borghese Gallery dedicate an exhibition to two “cursed” genius of the history of picture. The Gallery exposes the works of Caravaggio confronted with the works of Bacon, showing how two artist, even if one lived 400 years before the other, can express on the canvas existential torment with the same intensity and bravura.

3) Milan, the Ralism of Edward Hopper – from 13th October to 24th January:

For the first time in Milan an exhibition dedicated to E. Hopper, one of the most important exponent of the XX century Realism. The Royal Palace houses an artistic anthology with more than 160 works (watercolours, prints, oil paintings and draws). The exhibition will move to Rome from the 16th February to the 13th June 2010 (Museum Fondazione Roma)

4) Florence, between reality and simulation – from 16th October to 24th January:

Palazzo Strozzi propose an exhibition with the title “Art and deception. Wonders of the trompe-l’oeil from the antiquity to the contemporary time”. Hundreds works will tell you the charming story of the deception, bringing you in a world where the representation of reality prevails on reality.

5) Rovereto (TN), a travel in the artistic survey of the XX century – from 19th September to the 10th January:

“Masterpieces of modernity. The Kunstmuseum Winterthur collection” it’s the title of the exhibition of the Mart of Rovereto, which is going to houses more than 240 works coming from the artistic survey of XX century. Van Gogh, Monet, Pisarro, Kandisky and Klee are just some names of the artists exposed in this exhibition that wants to lead the visitor from the Impressionism to the Abstract art through a rich and interesting chronological path.

6) Rimini, the charm of painting – from 10th October to 14th March:

The works of the Museum of Fine Arts of Boston arrive in Rimini to an exhibition titled “From Rembrandt to Gaugin and Picasso. The charm of painting. Masterpieces of the Museum of Fine Arts of Boston”. Sixty-five works of the “European art” from the American museum which comprhends the works of the greatest names of the art will be exposed at Castel Sismondo.

7) Rome, the white nights of the Musei Vaticani – Every Friday from 4th September to 30th October:

After the success of the initiative of this summer the Musei Vaticano opens to the visitors during the night, from 7 pm to 11 pm you’ll have the possibility to see the art masterpieces of this Museum.

8) Prato, fashion meets art – from 19th September to 10th January:

The Tsar style is the theme of this exhibition of the Museo del tessuto in Prato where the masterpieces of the ancients tailors returns to shine under the spotlight. Paintings, dresses and cloths coming from the most important Russian museums reconstruct the ancient relation between Italy and Moscow created thanks to the cloth and luxury trading. Precious cloths and paintings of the maestros of the time testify the evolution of the fashion from XIV to XVIII century.

9) Pavia, works never seen in Italy – from 9th October to 17th January:

The Castello Visconteo of Pavia houses the exhibition “From Velazquez to Murillo. The golden age of the Spanish painting in the collections of the Ermitage Museum. The exhibition, around 50 works coming from the Russian museum, wants to emphasize the connections between Milan and Spain.

10) Genoa, from Otto Hofmann and the Bauhaus poetica – from 16th October to 14th January:

The Palazzo Ducale of Genoa houses the works of Otto Hofmann; about 200 works of the master of the astract art will be exposed in a wonderful scenario. Paintings, Xylographs, lithographs and pottery to deepen the artist profile grown following the art of Klee and Kandinsky.
