Gubbio was built on calcareous stones, the typical colour of this kind of stone gives it the appellative of “grey city”: it’s the most ancient centre of the region and both the buildings and the streets maintain their medieval appearances. As for Assisi, Gubbio’s history its linked to St. Francis: the legend tells that in this city the Saint tamed a ferocious wolf that scared the inhabitants.
